Ajo Mountain Drive
Travel Blog 376: Coyotes, Quail, and a Curve-Billed Thrasher
Ajo
Our kind of place! Just on the edge of nowhere, but had adequate provisions, grocery, gas, restaurants, phone, internet, great neighbors, plus a bunch of backyard birds and critters to watch and photograph. Here is our campground rabbit, resident coyote, neighborhood Gambel’s quails, and three pics of our backyard verdin.
Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
We visited twice, once taking Ajo Mountain Drive and the other time South Puerto Blanco Drive. Here is a curve-billed thrasher, desert marigold, and a desert spiny lizard.
Cabeza Prieta NWR
Although their visitor sign was always set to “Open” we tried three times and then gave up.
Other photos from our campground include Wilson’s warbler, Gila woodpecker, and Anna’s hummingbird.
We will be back.
