Blog 345: More Refuge Babies
Purple Gallinules
If you follow the blog, you’ve seen photos of common gallinules in the past along with their babies. If you like common gallinules, you gotta love purple gallinules, vivid, in-your-face colors and feet the size of snow shoes designed to scoot across lily pads with style. One morning at the Tee Dikes on the right, we saw a pair of purple gallinules and a baby. Sadly, I missed a shot of the young one.
However, luck was with us. The very next day at the very same place, we got to spend time watching one of the adults (acted like a momma) and the youngster. Check out the feet on the little tyke. Also, we saw Momma grab some breakfast and took off at a run to feed the baby.
Stilts
A few blogs back, I shared some pics of a couple of baby stilts at Lighthouse Pool. Here those babies are, eight days later. And here is Momma and the two babies one week after that.
Cotton Rat
Yes, I understand it is a rat, but it sure is cute.
Weather Station
We now have a very cool addition to the refuge, a new weather station installed down by the lighthouse. Lots of sensors, and the two cameras give you real-time viewing and a wealth of information. Check it out at https://wakulla.weatherstem.com/fswnstmarks.
This and That
See you next time.
