Blog 329: Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive
Lake Apopka was dead. Years of runoff pollution had poisoned the water, killed off the native flora, and destroyed most animal life. However, 20-plus years of restoration paid off. Today just 15 miles northwest of Orlando it a beautiful 48 square miles, and one of the top destinations for birders and bird photographers within Florida and around the country.
Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, along with national holidays, the gates to the 11-mile Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive open up close-up viewing of lots and lots of birds (and of course scores of gators). https://lakeapopkawildlife.us
Here are a few photos from our visit.
